AFC Liverpool v St Helens Town, 25th November 2014

It was a night in which we got out of the blocks quickly enough.  This was also on a night which produced 10 goals!  Our first was courtesy of Midfielder Carl Peers, who had made one of his trademark offensive runs.  Peers had lost control of the ball, before getting lucky to retain possession.  He was then able to shoot from a central position to give us the lead.  When Tom Stewart made it 2-0, there was still only 10 minutes or so on the clock.  That second goal was a sublime volley, met by Stewart from Peers' corner, which flew into the corner of the net.  Saints got it back to 2-1, before Ryan Cox made it 3-1 just before half time.  During the first half, I received a muffled message from fellow supporter Steve Fraser on my phone.  Steve was in Cyprus watching Barcelona in the Champions League.  I did get the gist of Steve's message that he wanted a text update or two.  So I filled hi...

New Mills V AFC Liverpool, 10th September 2016

As I arrived in New Mills, I went to a Town Centre Pub for a pint of Real Ale.  I watched the last half hour of Manchester City's 2-1 win at Old Trafford in the Manchester Derby.  AFC got off to a perfect start when a Jason Carey strike put us into the lead on 2 minutes.  It seemed that the home side (who had only managed 3 points for the whole previous campaign in the Evo-Stik First Division North) were there for the taking. It was a beautiful strike by Carey into the corner.  However, for the Goal Of The Day competition which was to follow, that strike would have been in third place for me. The second goal by Freddy Champion saw him bring the ball inside from the left, and unleash an unstoppable shot from about 25 yards that sailed into the roof of the net.  The third goal after the break by Paul Speed was one of those top corner beauties, also from outside the area, which was my winner of that day's Goal Of The Day! ...

AFC Liverpool v Ashton Athletic, 21st September 2016

This match marked my first home game as AFC Liverpool Programme Editor.  Before the match I was on the train to Formby to see my parents.  Funnily enough, I bumped into Adrian our new Club Secretary, who I had taken over as Programme Editor from.  Adrian said he was looking forward to seeing my first programme in print. It was a first half in which the Reds struggled.  We were not very good at keeping possession, and Ashton were quite good at keeping it.  The visitors took the lead and led 1-0 at the break. The second half brought a complete reversal, and we were suddenly getting our wide players into useful positions.  We were also winning corners and a few freekick situations, and putting Ashton Athletic under pressure. We equalised through a Freddie Potter header, after an initial effort was cleared off the line.  We then got our noses in front courtesy of a memorable goal, in which Conor Belger chested down a ...
