Ashton Athletic v AFC Liverpool, 23rd August 2022

I wasn't planning to come out to Brocstedes Park in the evening. I had something very important that day, my 19th wedding anniversary. But around 7pm ish after me and the Mrs were finishing our meal in a Turkish Restaurant in Warrington, having gone bowling earlier. She signalled a willingness to go home and chill. I saw an opportunity to sneak out and drive the half hour from Warrington to Ashton Athletic FC.  I knew I would miss at least 15 minutes though.  In fact I was 25 minutes late, and pleasantly surprised to see the turnstile still fully operational. On greeting Alan Harrison, Billy and Sandra, I realised Jesse Dowling on his return (having re-signed) had scored a brilliant goal to give us the lead. On joining other supporters behind the goal, I was told Jesse's goal was against the run of play.  In the portion of the first half I witnessed, I saw Jack McGovern called upon to make a fine save, I saw our woodwork rattled, and quite a lot of pressure from the home ...

Bury AFC v AFC Liverpool, 30th March 2023

Having lost at Vauxhall Motors 48 hours earlier in rather controversial circumstances, Bury still had promotion in their hands, as Bury's return fixture against the motormen was due the following Tuesday. But Bury AFC were left in a position where they now had to play three games a week. With landlords Radcliffe Borough also facing a fixture pile up, this  match was the first of four which I think were moved to Mossley. Rather predictably, the Reds faced an early Bury onslaught. They went close quite early, and the predictable signs were there that Jack McGovern was likely to be the busier keeper. We were holding on at 0-0 on 20 minutes, and occasionally looking like we could be a threat on the brake. Then we were unexpectedly given a gift. A mix up at the back between keeper and defender enabled Tom Croughan to run in  give us the lead. Tom actually playing was a bonus. We all thought he had left us a few weeks ago to join our purple cousins. But apparently he had remained on...

AFC Liverpool v Burscough, 9th October 2021

The previous week we lost 6-1 at Congleton Town. All goals had been in the second half and we had even shaded the first half. So hopefully there would be an improvement for the home match against Burscough. Meanwhile at the upper echelons on the game, Liverpool FC had now introduced the new NFC technology for entry to Anfield. The season ticket I had been on the waiting list for 13 years prior to 2012 was now transferred to my brother. But he had transferred the Man City game to me and I was having difficulties accessing the ticket on Google pay. Prior to the Congleton game Chris Stirrup kindly had a little look at my phone. But he couldn't work out what was wrong. So I had to get to the ticket office early the next day to sort it out. Fast forward a week and it was international week. The international week did raise the attendance slightly to 166. After I finished my turnstile duties there had already been a goal at both ends. As I had almost made it to the Crossender Road end, n...
