AFC Liverpool v Winsford United, 28th November 2015

I missed Winsford's opening goal to see them go into an early lead, due to my early match volunteering. I later spoke to Josh Purcell's Dad in the bar, and he said the goal had similarities with Winsford's two goals at their place a few weeks previously.  The rest of the first half was not a particularly brilliant match, especially due to the not so good weather. Apart from the Reds forcing a series of corners midway through the first half, the game was not offering much. Before half time, Ryan Cox was brought down by their keeper, and a penalty was awarded. The keeper went into the Ref's notebook, and Liam Loughlin equalised from the spot. After the break we went into the lead with an absolute beauty of a strike by Matty Williams on the volley, which came about after a deft ball into the inside right channel by Steve Jones. It was certainly one of the best AFC goals I had seen at College Road at that point in time, just over a year after we had moved from Prescot. A...

Cleator Moor Celtic v AFC Liverpool, 23rd November 2019

I was picked up by Dave Williams in Warrington around 10.30am, and we headed up the M6. We arrived at Cleator Moor Celtic's JBV Park I believe just before 1.30pm. I was in the clubhouse before the match, and joined in with a rendition of the Dan Cockerline song "Sweet Cockerline!" After taking a position behind the goal we were attacking in the first half, I was bending down into my bag for the Rattles, and Kenny commented that Lee Carr made a save to thwart Cleator Moor. Rattles were duly distributed to Kenny and another of our chaps. With the fells in the background, this really was a beautiful place to watch football. We got our noses in front on 11 minutes. Kyle Schorah was put through by Daniel Cockerline. The Keeper slipped, got back to his feet, but Kyle got to the ball to poke it home.  We then took control. A couple of efforts produced wonder saves by Cleator Moor Keeper Craig Devine to push the shots over the bar. The Reds also went close, when a ball across the...

AFC Liverpool v 1874 Northwich, 1st May 2018

It was always going to be one of those matches in which a fan was going to kick every ball. Burscough's win against Bootle had put us back into the bottom four, with us having played a game more than our relegation rivals. With Maine Road conceeding a late equaliser to Padiham the previous Saturday, the relegation picture was starting to look like Road would need a miracle. Burscough would probably get out of it now. That meant the final relegation place would probably be between ourselves and Abbey Hey. 1874 were virtually playing every night to catch up with their fixture backlog, which was caused by a combination of multiple postponements and their FA Vase run. It appeared that they had fielded a fairly young side. 1874 looked dangerous every time they went forward, but thankfully Jack Ferguson did not need to make any saves. But one or two dangerous crosses perhaps needed just a touch. We took the lead  on 21 minutes through Callum Schorah, who slotted in after  a scram...
