AFC Liverpool from Yesteryear

  After watching Sadio Mane miss a couple of gilt edged chances for the big Reds during the first half of their match against Sheffield United in the bar, it was onto the turnstile. I met Golcar's Secretary who seemed a very pleasant chap. As for the big Reds, we did win 1-0. Making his debut for the little Reds that day was Daniel Cockerline, a 6ft 4 inches Centre Forward who had previously been on the books of Sheffield United. As I walked round the ground, I stopped and chatted to our fellow volunteer George by the players tunnel, as I often did. George had just come back from a recent trip to Thailand. As I was chatting to him, the goalkeeper or one of our centre-halves played the ball to their number 9 (Michael Fish), who made no mistake in putting Golcar a goal to the good. Times were strange. It was December and both sides had only played five league matches between them. Due to the second Covid Lockdown, this match was the first time we had played since bowing out of the FA Vase at the end of October. Due to postponements, Saints hadn't played since Mid-October! My main pre-match duties were to just take the money and sell some Programmes. As the rain got heavy, Selina (who at that point was a board member) passed the track and trace sheet. That meant I needed to take people's details, unless they were logging in via the NHS App. I forgot to ask two regular fans if they had used the App. Whilst I was still in the turnstile, Saints took the lead. Not long after joining the action we drew level through Jon Croasdale though.  How on earth would the season get finished?
