AFC Liverpool v Bootle, 9th December 2017
On the turnstile before the game, I had one mad moment. I challenged one bloke who gave me an old-style tenner after he gave it to me. Then I realised that they were still just legal tender!
Whilst I was still indisposed on the turnstyle, I experienced an unfortunate moment of the Match- the Bucks taking the lead on 10 minutes. After leaving the turnstile, I settled into my seat next to Eric and Kenny. The Reds were absolutely hopeless in finding the next man. Absolutely hopeless!
Amongst the main chances of the first half after the Bucks were in front, they did force one very good save from Don Garner. At the other end, Kev Edgar was played in down the inside left and blasted over!
I was commenting to Eric how you cannot argue with Kev Edgar's record, scoring nearly one in two matches. I also lamented how isolated he had been. Then, a minute later he was through against ex-Reds keeper Ryan Jones, and we were level on the 45th minute.
After the break, we suddenly had a dominant spell. A cross went dangerously across their box, and one of their defenders kind of connected with it. If our luck had been totally in, the connection would have resulted in an own goal. The reality was that we had a throw in!
For much of the rest of the half, the pendulum swung the other way. They created quite a few chances, some which forced saves from Dom Garner, whilst others which saw Bucks players miss the opportunities. One particular chance I recall saw Dom Garner make a save, then the rebound was spurned!
With 7 minutes to go, the game took an unexpected turn for the better as Kev Edgar was played through. Once again, he got the better of AFC's former keeper and we were in the lead.
With us 2-1 in front, Bootle predictably peppered our goal. More chances were either spurned or saved. One fell I think to Ryan Cox, who blasted over, prompting a new Kenny chant. That new chant was along the lines of "Coxy, Coxy, what's the score?” Until the final whistle was blown, I don't think Steve Fraser felt it was a comfortable chant. But, after 4 defeats against the Bucks during the previous season, it was a case of UP THE NON LEAGUE REDS!
