AFC Liverpool v Padiham, 4th December 2021

We had already met Padiham twice earlier this season at their place, winning a five goal thriller in the FA Cup, and scrambling a 2-2 draw in the league game courtesy of a Dan Cockerline late free kick, in a match from our perspective that was defined by a terrible performance by a debutant keeper who had since moved on. Both sides started play on 24 points in the lower reaches of the North West Counties League Premier Division. We were ahead on goal difference, but perhaps crucially had a couple of games in hand on the East Lancastrians. Nonetheless, it sure was a six pointer.

It was first blood to the men in Red, following a break into the box by Jesse Dowling. He found Kyle Schorah, who in turn played in number 9 Ollie Sanderson who put us 1-0 up. Every time we went forward it looked promising. The visitors by contrast had just one or two promising situations. Just before the half hour mark, Jesse was again involved. His cross found Callum Schorah who knocked it into the net to double our lead.

The weather was atrocious. I must have been mad staying out behind the Crossender Road end. We had taken the decision to get 50 programmes printed, but the weather put pay to any prospect of them selling out!

A couple of minutes after the restart, a Kyle Schorah free kick extended our lead. Five minutes later the same player nearly completed a great move with his second. His effort though came back off the base of the post. As I was starting to think we could win here very comfortably, the visitors suddenly got one back out of nothing on the hour mark with a good low strike.

Despite the blow of conceding a goal, the general direction of the game thankfully did not alter. It was the men in Red who continued to ask the main questions. On 74 minutes a fine move was finished off by Jesse Dowling. It was a fine reward for Jesse who had been our biggest threat. Five minutes after that the visitors once again reduced the lead to two goals. As I recall it a shot from the right seemed to go in very softly, and may have got a deflection. But I have to admit I was a bit distracted by some of Mr Harrison's banter!

After that not a lot happened as we saw the game out in very bad conditions. Oh and Liverpool scored a winner deep into injury time at Molyneaux through Divock Origi, on a day Chelsea had lost at West Ham.
