AFC Liverpool v Litherland REMYCA, 21st September 2022

I think it was around the 70th minute with the score at 0-0 that Chris Dace said something like "Andy I don't think this match will make it into a future programme". It was certainly not a match at that point which would live long in the memory.

The match had offered very little. We had shown very little going forward, whilst the visitors had actually put the ball in the back of our net only to be denied by the flag. That was in an otherwise disappointing first half, which also produced a save I think from our keeper Jackie McGovern.

Not long after Chris suggested this was not a match I would be writing about, Kenny started to instigate a bit of banter with Litherland Keeper Jack Reynolds on slipping him a bit of dosh to let a goal in.

In the 87th minute Tom Douglas took possession of the ball in the Litherland half, and Alan Harrison promptly started the "attack attack" chant. Tommy ran a few yards and let fly with a speculative shot, which went through Reynolds' hands and into the corner! 1-0 AFC Liverpool! Have to say not really deserved. But how ironic it was a keeper error just minutes after some banter with him on taking a bung! At the end of the match Alan Harrison remarked to Matt Potter that we had done a little robbery by snatching that victory!

I was also stood with Greg and a few other guys including one guy who had come on board recently to help with the website. It had been picked up that I had made a couple of spelling errors in the programme. I had Ollie down as Oliver Sanderson-Rogby (instead of Rigby). Steve Fraser remarked that with the Rugby League Grand Final that weekend, I should next week go with Sanderson-Rugby. The other concerned ex-Red (and ex-Tranmere) George Donnelly, who had acquired an extra l on the end of his surname. There was no time to dwell on it though, as I needed to get home and finalise the programme for Saturday's big match, against Bury AFC.
