AFC Liverpool v Holker Old Boys, 2nd November 2019

Looking out from the Turnstile Hut, I saw a miskick by their Keeper and we got a corner. Daniel Cockerline had already put us in front. Not long after the Keeper's miskick, Kyle Schorah made it 2-0.

After leaving the turnstile, I was chatting to George by the tunnel. As I was talking to George, Lee McConchie made it 3-0. It was a beautiful strike into the Holker Keeper's left hand corner. As I walked round to the Crossender Road end, I noticed courtesy of Steve Fraser that Holker's Keeper (who apparently was not their regular keeper), was wearing a Schalke shirt. Funilly enough, I was actually noting this point down and Holker scored a goal to reduce the arrears. It was a beauty apparently. For the record, I don't normally make my notes for AFC Liverpool From Yesteryear during the match! After a period when Holker suggested they may be working their way back into the match, we struck again just before half time. A beauty of a free kick round the wall and into the top corner from Rhys Hardacre would have certainly left Holker's first choice keeper with no chance. It would also have beaten Allison Becker! After the break, the first 10 minutes or so were largely uneventful. Holker going forward were showing some of the quality that had seen them start the day in 3rd place. Then, it was enter James Salkeld to make his debut on 56 minutes. Within a couple of minutes Daniel Cockerline was in on the Keeper, after Callum Schorah weaved past a few players, but was denied by the Keeper's private parts!James Salkeld had just signed from Tranmere Rovers, and went on to have a debut that could have lived long in the memory. On the hour, he was played in, and slotted it with great composure past the keeper at his near post.Almost immediately after that debut Salkeld goal, Holker got a second. It was a fairly decent strike by Tom Dawson. But then, we scored two goals in about four minutes. Anthony Lyons (who was another second half substitute), got in on the act as Holker's defence again got blown apart. On 67 minutes, Salkeld got his second with a delicious chip over the advancing keeper. That man Salkeld completed his hat trick with another calm finish on the 80 minute mark.It was a 20 minute hat trick, and the goals got better each time. A few games later though Salkeld was no more. The 8-2 win was actually the Reds' first ever home league victory over Holker. Prior to that day, we had a near perfect record at Holker, and had beaten them at home a couple of times in cup matches. But, this was the first home win in the league. One of those cup wins may have actually been played at Holker, due to our old groundshare at Prescot Cables. Anyway, we sure did win in style that day, and it was the second consecutive home match in which we scored 8 goals!
