AFC Liverpool v Colne, 29th April 2013

In the immediate aftermath of our 3-2 win over Colne, Manager Paul Moore told me that the lads were off their feet.  That was no surprise considering the backlog of games we were playing. As we headed into the final week of the season, the Colne match was the first of three home games.
Although we managed to hold out for the win, the Manager felt we had done enough to win 10-1.  Steve Fraser for his part felt that with other results going our way that night, we had now done enough to finish in the top half of the Premier League.
It sure was an electric start from the men in red.  Daniel Hand headed us into the lead in the first minute.  A minute or so later the same player had the ball in the net once more, yet was miraculously ruled offside with one of their defenders on the line.
When Colne drew level on twenty six minutes with a fine low strike from just outside the area, it certainly hadn't been on the cards.  Colne were only level for a few minutes as Anthony Brown restored our lead with another headed goal. Rather than refer to Anthony Brown as Brownie, Dave Mac was in fact referring to him as Brownlow Hill!
After the restart Brownie temporarily and bizarrely moved to left midfield, from where he released Shaun Harris down the left.  Harris then crossed for Ronnie Morgan to give us what seemed would be a comfortable lead.  We did push on, and further opportunities were created for us to extend our lead.
When those chances were not taken, it looked like we could be in for a nervous final few minutes when Colne scored again with about four minutes to go.  We did though have enough to see us over the line, and missed yet another chance to score again when Steve Williams hit the crossbar.
When I looked at the league table and results myself that night, I realised Steve Fraser was right in terms of his assessment of us finishing in the top half.  Only a ridiculous goal difference swing could deny us.
For his part, Steve had the dilemma of deciding whether to come and watch the Little Reds face Squires Gate on Wednesday, or take the trip to Barcelona to see if Barca could overturn a 4-0 deficit against Bayern Munich in the Champions League Semi-Final Second Leg!
