AFC Liverpool v Garstang, 20th March 2019

I was in my seat for a few minutes after being on the turnstile, when Garstang took the lead around the quarter hour mark. Everyone around me said it was deserved. Alan Harrison commented that we had not really got into the game. The goal did though seem to wake us up. A number of chances were suddenly created.  With a few minutes to go before half time, we should have equalised. I think it was Rhys Hardacre running at their defence. He lost a bit of momentum when he could have put a man in on goal. When the chance looked to have gone, he produced  a brilliant shot from just outside the area which came back off the post. A minute later, Jack Cookson needed to make a crucial save after a Garstang break. The visitors went in a goal to the good, and the early stages of the second half saw Garstang continue to cling to the slender lead, with the Reds falling to convert more chances.  On 67 minutes though, we did restore parity. The equaliser came courtesy of a Jon Croasdale l...

AFC Liverpool v Garstang, 14th August 2019

As I left the turnstile, and made my way up into the stand, we took the lead. Johnny Croasdale got the final touch from a corner. The second goal was described by Dave The Rattler as a DIY goal by Anthony Lyons. He got the ball, held the defender off, ran in one on one against the keeper, and sold a dummy to put us 2-0 up. We had been playing some good stuff. Garstang though were managed by ex-football league player Andy Payton. They came back and had a bit of a spell, but any efforts did not trouble Reds keeper David Potter. That was in part down to good defending. I joined Steve Fraser behind the goal around midway through the first half. Mr EFC Liverpool (Grandad of ex-defender Ben Lightfoot) was here making some noise. My judgement on leaving the stand was quickly brought into question, when the heavens opened. Thankfully, Steve had his umbrella! As the half moved towards its finish, we spawned a few chances to extend our lead. There was one effort that came off the woodwork,...

AFC Liverpool v Bacup Borough, 27th August 2018

I went to the Dace Coffee Shop before the match. It was a delight to see Alan Harrison for the first time in ten months, due to his long term illness. One topic I asked Steve Fraser about was whether the Goalkeeper who had kept goal during the previous two matches and kept two clean sheets had been influential. The answer I got told was that he did ok for what he needed to do, which was not much. Unfortunately for George Harris, a family problem meant he could not play in this match. Lee Carr on his return from holiday would keep goal. As I joined the action, Jay Mcgrane put us 1-0 up. According to a chap called George, we had been on top. As we were talking a little bit about Rugby League, Bacup were suddenly through. Thankfully, their fella put it over the top. Apparently, that was their first real threat. Within a couple of minutes of joining our fans behind the goal, McGrane was played through after a good move and smashed in a second. We were generally comfortable for the remain...
