Burscough v AFC Liverpool, 24th March 2018

We had our new signing Elliott Nevitt up front. Meanwhile, relegation rivals Burscough had signed some fella from Marine before transfer deadline day. For my part, I brought John my Father-In-Law along with me. The Sat Nav's misfiring directions taking us to Burscough FC was frustrating. We did thankfully manage to find it on a fine sunny afternoon for football.   I think it may have been the Linnets' new signing who gave them the lead inside the first ten minutes with a fine lob over Jack Cookson. The not so good defending of our right back Chris Brady was not impressing John.   AFC were playing some good stuff and creating a few openings. Unfortunately, one corner was low and poor. We did restore parity on 35 minutes with a good header at the far post from none other than Chris Brady!   After drawing level the home side responded, forcing a good flying save from Jack Cookson. Then, just before half time the Linnets had seemingly taken a half time lead courtesy of an unm...

Litherland REMYCA v AFC Liverpool, 15th February 2020

After the passing of Storm Ciara, storm Dennis had arrived. Marine's home match with Tadcaster Albion was off, as was Bootle's home match. However, surprisingly our match at Litherland REMYCA was the only tie of the Macron Cup Quarter-final stage which survived.   A few minutes in, and we took the lead courtesy of a Kyle Schorah strike. This was after a corner was not dealt with by REMYCA.   A few minutes later, the home side went down to ten men. It was certainly a challenge that seemed to warrant at least a yellow card. Although, with  my perception that officials are often perceived to be less strict in the North West Counties League than the Premier League, I wasn't really expecting any card. So, when the fella was red carded, it was a surprise.   REMYCA were bottom of the Premier Division, whilst we were third in the First Division North. With the direction of travel for both sides, we were probably slight favourites, but with it all to play for. REMYCA also had...

Ashton Athletic v AFC Liverpool, 22nd April 2017

The backdrop to this match was the Chairman, Secretary, Steward Craig, and Steve Fraser walking 14 miles to get to Brocstedes Park, raising funds for the club and Liverpool Homeless FC.   Much of the early running was done by AFC Liverpool, creating about 4 decent chances.  Unfortunately, Mini's touch was not quite good enough at times.   In the middle of those AFC efforts, Athletic struck with a daisy cutter from distance which found its way into the bottom corner of Dom Garner's net.  That was after five minutes.   When Athletic scored their second on 27 mins, it was a cross cum shot which found its way into the corner, raising questions on Dom Garner's positioning.   Their only other sniff of goal in the first half came courtesy of our keeper, as he gave the ball away from a throw.  Ashton almost took advantage, but thankfully Dom Garner was able to smother.   Without a win in 5 matches, it was frustrating to find ourselves two goals down in a ...
